Description:
OpenAI is seeking a Security Engineer to join the Infrastructure Security (InfraSec) team.
The InfraSec team protects the foundations of OpenAI’s research and production environments, including GPU supercomputing clusters, multi-cloud infrastructure, datacenters, networking, storage, and critical services for AI models.
Responsibilities include designing and building security controls across various layers such as physical hardware, firmware, OS, Kubernetes, networks, and CI/CD.
The role involves collaborating with engineering and security teams to deploy security enhancements and control changes across broad-scale infrastructure.
High-impact projects include checkpoint encryption, network isolation, secret management, and machine identity, with a focus on raising security standards for emerging AI workloads.
A generalist approach is required to build security controls, balancing security expertise with broad technical skills to adapt to evolving challenges.
Requirements:
Candidates must have a deep understanding of security principles, best practices, and common vulnerabilities.
A proactive mindset is essential, with the ability to identify and address security gaps or inefficiencies through automation and tooling.
A track record of delivering scalable solutions and driving impactful changes across infrastructure in real-world projects is required.
Expertise in the security of cloud platforms, particularly Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure, is necessary, especially in securing multi-cloud networks and designing cloud-agnostic systems.
Experience in securing on-prem deployments and datacenters from construction to multi-tenant use is required.
Familiarity with container security, orchestration security, and authentication/authorization is essential.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary, along with the ability to critically assess security risks.
Excellent communication skills are required to convey complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Candidates should be excited about collaborating with cross-functional teams to build secure, reliable systems that scale globally.
