Remote Software Engineer - Functions (Compute)

Description:

• Help build & architect the Supabase Compute platform using Firecracker microVMs.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and OpenTelemetry tracing to optimize service latency and reliability.
• Collaborate with open-source teams and relay user requirements.
• Participate in on-call rotation for production health.
• Manage features like scheduled functions, background tasks, and custom routing.
• Integrate Compute with Supabase stack components (Auth, Postgres, Storage, Realtime).
• Expand Compute runtime for various use cases (AI inference, hosting websites).
• Improve developer experience for local development and debugging.

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of backend or systems engineering experience with proficiency in Rust and TypeScript.
• Experience with Firecracker, V8 Isolates, Deno, and runtime isolation technologies.
• Familiarity with operating infrastructure at scale (Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, Redis).
• Strong vision for edge computing and data distribution.
• Bonus: experience with developer-facing CLIs or front-end tooling.
