Description:

Instructure is looking to hire a full-time Database Administrator (DBA) on their DBA team.
The DBA will work with the Canvas product, which has become a standard LMS solution worldwide, assisting millions with online learning.
The role involves ensuring data safety and availability, future-proofing database systems, and maintaining sustainable processes.
Responsibilities include explaining the complexities of databases, working comfortably in an SQL prompt on production systems, owning and driving projects to completion, and collaborating with team members to address needs.
The DBA will respond to database issues, automate processes to prevent problems, serve as a point of contact for technical and non-technical inquiries, proactively manage potential issues, and participate in an on-call team.
The DBA is expected to learn new technologies while maintaining existing systems.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have a strong working knowledge of Linux and Amazon Web Services.
Proficiency in PostgreSQL or another ACID-compliant SQL database is required.
Experience with pgBouncer or similar database pooling solutions is necessary.
Familiarity with Ansible or other configuration management tools is expected.
Knowledge of Datadog or similar resource monitoring and alerting systems is important.
The candidate should have experience with automation and managing fleets of thousands of servers.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Ruby, bash, git, Python, or Go is required.
Experience in performance tuning is also necessary.
