Description:

As a Design Frontend Engineer at Nava, you will work on small teams to build scalable infrastructure for government services, impacting programs that affect millions of Americans.
This role serves as a bridge between the design and engineering teams, converting visual designs into clean, accessible code.
Responsibilities include assisting with user research, developing wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and other artifacts, as well as developing frontend software using modern techniques and web frameworks such as HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3.
You will collaborate with back-end developers and other designers to improve product usability and independently own the process of turning research insights into design artifacts.
The position involves reviewing code, providing feedback on technical specifications, and iterating on existing prototypes to enhance ease-of-use and responsiveness.
You will also write functional requirement documents and guides, propose new tools and practices, and participate in project meetings with team members and clients.
The role requires attending regular internal design meetings and leading conversations about design process improvements.

Requirements:

You must have 5-7 years of experience working in an agile, multidisciplinary team environment, preferably with medium or large-scale web applications.
Experience working with Engineers and Product Managers on scoping work and defining the definitions of done is required.
You should have experience mapping and driving systemic improvements within complex service environments.
A strong understanding of web and mobile user interface design best practices is necessary.
Experience with research methodologies like usability testing and prototyping is essential.
Significant experience in JavaScript, CSS, and responsive design is required.
You must demonstrate the ability to design, build, and test semantic, accessible, Section 508 compliant web applications.
Understanding of inclusive design methodologies is important.
Some experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue.js, Angular, or Ember is preferred.
Familiarity with a JavaScript testing framework such as Jest, Jasmine, or Mocha is beneficial.
You should possess the tenacity to dive into problems and iterate in working code.
The ability to think strategically around trade-offs and short-term vs. long-term benefits is essential.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
