Description:
Aker Systems is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to assist in the development of a secure batch/real-time data platform for a government client.
The role involves leveraging the latest commercial and open-source technologies to get data from various sources, format it correctly, and ensure alignment to target models.
Responsibilities include coding, testing, and documenting new or modified data pipelines that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
The candidate will conduct logical and physical database design and expand data platform capabilities to address new data and analytics challenges.
Data analysis will be performed to identify feasible solutions and enhancements to data processing challenges.
The role requires ensuring data models are consistent with the data architecture, including entity names, relationships, and definitions.
The candidate will perform root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
A UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance is required for this role, with support provided for applicants who have lived and worked in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree is required for this position.
Essential criteria include experience in data pipeline development using data processing technologies and frameworks.
Familiarity with Agile or other rapid application development methods is necessary.
The candidate must have knowledge of data modeling and an understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases.
Experience with Public Cloud services, particularly AWS, is essential, with practical experience in core services such as EC2, RDS, Lambda, Athena, and Glue being advantageous.
The role requires configuring and tuning Relational and NoSQL databases, including query processing and planning.
Proficiency in programming or scripting languages, such as Python, is required.
Experience with Test Driven Development using appropriate tools and frameworks is essential.
Nice to have criteria include familiarity with CI tools such as Jenkins/Drone, knowledge of configuration tools like Ansible and Packer, and experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments.
Experience in Linux and Windows environments is also a plus.
