Description:
Moxie is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to take full ownership of its data infrastructure and drive the evolution of data systems as the company scales.
The role involves refining data pipelines, optimizing infrastructure, and collaborating with engineering, product, finance, and operations teams.
The Principal Data Engineer will manage partnerships with external vendors and help shape the long-term data strategy, including AI and machine learning initiatives.
In the first 60 days, the engineer will build partnerships with key stakeholders, manage data systems, familiarize themselves with Moxie’s data infrastructure, and contribute to the data roadmap.
In the first 4 months, they will take co-ownership of all data systems, manage capacity, become a domain expert for data models, and own vendor relationships.
In the first 6 months, the engineer will collaborate with AI Engineers and Product Managers to build AI-powered tools, develop scalable solutions for data requests, and plan long-term machine learning projects.
Requirements:
Candidates must have deep experience designing and maintaining scalable ETL pipelines and cloud-based data infrastructure, preferably on AWS.
Proficiency with tools such as DBT, Prefect, Airbyte, Snowflake, and Omni is required.
Advanced SQL and data modeling skills, focusing on analytics-ready data structures, are essential.
The ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker capable of designing scalable solutions and architecting systems for future growth.
Expertise in balancing trade-offs between speed, scalability, and cost-efficiency is necessary.
Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in refactoring and optimizing data pipelines for performance and maintainability, are required.
Excellent communication skills are needed to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally and align data initiatives with business priorities is essential.
A self-starter who thrives on autonomy and accountability is preferred, along with experience mentoring engineers and establishing best practices.
