Description:
The Principal Software Engineer will report to the Director of Engineering and collaborate with Fellows and product engineering teams.
This role is focused on strengthening and scaling the Payment Processing system, which is a critical Core Platform for Marqeta.
Responsibilities include leading the architecture, design, and implementation of complex distributed systems.
The engineer will serve as a subject matter expert in card payments, domain modeling, and accounting processes.
The position involves creating scalable and elegant solutions that minimize complexity and human toil.
The engineer will mentor mid-level engineers and ensure effective delegation of tasks.
The role requires the ability to articulate architectural designs and present them to diverse audiences.
Time management and providing growth opportunities for others are essential aspects of the role.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 10+ years of engineering experience.
In-depth knowledge of card payments, double-entry bookkeeping, and settlement systems is required.
A deep understanding of the payments ecosystem, including merchants, acquirers, card networks, and issuers/processors, is necessary.
Demonstrated experience in the Fintech space, particularly in card issuing and payment processing, is essential.
Proficiency in software development (Java) and operations experience with real-time event-based processing is required.
Experience in simplifying legacy code and migrating customers to new technology stacks is necessary.
Candidates should have experience with databases and scaling transactional data stores.
Experience deploying and maintaining distributed systems on AWS is required.
A passion for writing high-quality code with comprehensive test coverage is essential.
Familiarity with Agile Scrum and Test-Driven Development (TDD) is necessary.
Strong communication skills are required, including the ability to articulate complex issues clearly.
A team-oriented approach is essential, with the ability to lead projects and collaborate cross-functionally.
