The Senior Backend Engineer will play a significant role in building and scaling the data platform.
Responsibilities include designing and developing fast, scalable, and maintainable data pipelines using Spark.
The engineer will optimize Spark jobs for performance and resource utilization.
Collaboration with product and engineering teams to understand problems is essential.
The role requires deliberate measurement and design before coding, as well as troubleshooting and resolving production issues.
The engineer should maintain a curious mindset, ask questions, and experiment.
Building sufficient tests to ensure confidence in changes is also a key responsibility.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 7+ years of experience in software engineering focused on backend development.
A minimum of 3+ years of experience with Scala or Python and Spark is required.
Proficiency in functional programming concepts is necessary.
Experience in maintaining deployment pipelines or Kubernetes (K8S) is expected.
Candidates should have experience with the tradeoffs of distributed systems.
A passion for writing beautiful, elegant, and readable code is essential.
Experience with SQL is required.
The ability to pause and critically think about problems is important.
Candidates should be driven to improve software practices.
