Description:

The Senior Backend Engineer position at Axios involves being responsible for the evolution and maintenance of the backend architecture and services that enable Axios journalists to reach readers through various platforms.
The Engineer will oversee the technical architecture of the platform and core services, driving strategic platform initiatives and collaborating with different teams to ensure stable and performant application services.
Responsibilities include establishing and aligning technical vision, working closely with product development teams, mentoring less experienced team members, identifying and prioritizing technical debt, staying updated with industry trends, and recommending new tools and technologies.
The role also involves contributing to a culture of documentation and working closely with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.

Requirements:

Experience building web-scale systems in languages like Golang, Python, and TypeScript.
Demonstrated senior-level expertise in proactive problem-solving and driving technical innovation.
Track record of designing and building scalable systems.
Strong understanding of database concepts, performance tuning, and diagnosing performance issues in large-scale systems.
Experience with cloud-based infrastructure using AWS.
Proficiency in Agile Software Development methodologies.

Starting salary in the range of $155,000 - $190,000, dependent on factors like location, work experience, and skills.
