Description:

  • Kpler is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join their risk and compliance team in Paris, focusing on maritime domain awareness.
  • The role involves developing algorithms to detect deviations from normal maritime activity and identify deceptive shipping practices.
  • Responsibilities include designing, experimenting, developing, testing, and deploying data science models for flow forecasting and anomaly detection.
  • The candidate will optimize and fine-tune models in production, monitor deployed models, and manage model and data drift.
  • The position requires building robust data integration pipelines from diverse sources, including geospatial data and ship mobility data.
  • The Senior Data Scientist will research methods and data sources to enhance model accuracy and drive business impact.
  • The role includes delivering end-to-end features, making cost-effective design decisions, and leading projects independently.
  • The candidate will identify opportunities for new projects and collaborate with product teams to develop value-adding features.
  • Knowledge sharing and mentoring junior data scientists are key aspects of the role.
  • The position is part of a vibrant Machine Learning community at Kpler, addressing a wide range of ML challenges.
  • The tech stack includes Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, AWS, and various big data technologies.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Data Science role, with a track record of deploying models into production is required.
  • Proven experience in delivering end-to-end machine learning solutions that generate business value is essential.
  • Proficiency in Python is mandatory.
  • Expert knowledge of at least one cloud computing platform, preferably AWS, is required.
  • Fluency in English is necessary.
  • Nice to have: expertise in geospatial data and mobility analytics, experience with big data technologies like Spark and Kafka, and familiarity with ML pipeline technologies.
  • A Ph.D. in a quantitative field is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with the shipping industry and commodity trading is a plus.
  • Comfort with software engineering best practices and a focus on code simplicity and performance is beneficial.
  • Experience in an international environment is advantageous.
