Remote Senior Database Administrator

Description:

• The Senior Database Engineer will be a key member of the Accela Database Engineering team based in Costa Rica.
• This role involves collaboration with application engineers and a leadership team known for their expertise in Architecture, Operations, and Security.
• The team embraces Agile methodologies and fosters a culture of collaboration and active communication.
• Responsibilities include participating in on-call rotation, production support activities, maintenance, and application releases.
• The engineer will complete customer requests within agreed-upon OLA and manage projects/Go-Lives as per the schedule.
• The role requires driving incidents to resolution and implementing permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.
• The engineer will develop PowerShell automation to replace manual tasks and support existing automation while contributing to future enhancements.
• Deep knowledge and experience in PowerShell for automating database and application tasks are essential.
• The engineer will develop and support Terraform automation for provisioning new infrastructure in Azure and AWS Cloud.
• Responsibilities also include transforming legacy operations into cloud-native processes and contributing to the development of Accela’s next-generation Civic platform application.
• The engineer will work closely with a cross-functional team to deliver high-quality database services and perform database design and code reviews for performance optimization.
• System-wide analysis will be performed to ensure proposed solutions are best-in-class without negative impacts.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
• Candidates must have 5+ years of SQL Server experience in production and 3+ years of PostgreSQL experience in production.
• A minimum of 2+ years of Azure/Cloud experience is necessary.
• Proficiency in Azure Cloud Native Services, including Azure SQL Database as a Service, Azure Infrastructure as a Service, and Azure Networking and DNS is required.
• Comprehensive experience in Database Management, including SQL Server Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Replication, and High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) is essential.
• Mastery in Windows System Administration and Windows Clustering is required.
• Expertise in creating, modifying, troubleshooting, and maintaining PowerShell Automation Scripts is necessary.
• Experience managing 24x7 production database systems is required.
• Candidates must have the capability to remediate operational performance of database processes for various workloads.
• Proficiency in system health monitoring tools like DB Monitoring – Idera SQL DM and Datadog is required.
• Strong experience with Active Directory and Azure Active Directory is necessary.
• Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure provisioning in Azure Cloud is required.
• The ability to create automated remediation procedures is essential.
• Independent thinking with creative, resourceful, and proactive problem-solving skills is necessary.
