Description:
Marqeta is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to independently identify and deliver software solutions through a set of milestones.
The role involves owning and delivering projects in service of quarterly goals and solving ambiguous, open-ended problems.
Responsibilities include defining and delivering well-scoped milestones, acting as a technical lead, and keeping customer needs in mind.
The engineer will write clear, efficient code with minimal bugs and propose plans to address identified gaps.
The position requires challenging the status quo and leading design for medium components/features.
The engineer will have significant ownership of a component/feature and ensure software components are testable and maintainable.
Participation in on-call coverage is also expected.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer with a Bachelor’s degree, or 3 years with an advanced degree; alternatively, 8+ years of relevant experience may suffice.
The ability to decompose business problems into solutions requiring designs with multiple interacting components is essential.
Candidates should be able to build correct and maintainable software components with a focus on quality and meeting deadlines.
A strong grasp of libraries, platforms, and systems is required, along with experience in Java and/or Python.
Experience with transactional RDBMS such as MySQL, Postgres, MS SQL Server, or Oracle is necessary.
Candidates should have experience building scalable software platforms and the ability to communicate clearly with various audiences.
The ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to identify technical blind spots is also required.

The base salary range for this position is CAD 103,000 - 137,000, with annual bonuses for eligible employees based on performance.
