The Senior Backend Engineer will build and extend Tala’s backend architecture to support new country launches, products, features, and a growing user base.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing features, reviewing design documents, performing code reviews, and improving the codebase with clean and efficient code.
The role involves contributing to the migration of legacy code to a microservices architecture and enhancing the testing infrastructure for backend modules.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Product, Data, Credit, and Business Development is essential to deliver scalable software solutions.
Experience with event-driven architectures and machine learning (ML) or AI solutions at scale is required.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 5+ years of coding experience in one or more functional programming languages such as Scala, Go, Kotlin, Erlang, Haskell, or Rust.
Experience with event-driven architectures and/or machine learning (ML) and/or AI solutions at scale is necessary.
A strong background in Testing/TDD quality engineering practices is required.
Applicants should have developed and launched large-scale consumer applications with backend on Cloud infrastructure (AWS or Google Cloud) using a microservices architecture.
Expert knowledge in REST API design and development for mobile/web use is essential.
