Description:
As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer at Skylight, you will be part of a digital consultancy focused on using design and technology to enhance government services.
You will work on designing, implementing, and maintaining software systems to improve government services for users, including DHS initiatives related to immigration, travel, and law enforcement.
Collaborate with a cross-functional team, including user experience researchers, designers, product managers, and engineers, to engineer software products.
Advocate for and adhere to lean-agile engineering principles and practices such as API-first design, continuous integration, version control, and automated testing.
Select and utilize appropriate tools, frameworks, languages, and technologies, with a preference for open-source solutions.
Analyze systems to identify technical debt, instability, and design solutions for improvement.
Requirements:
Ability to write clean, working, and reusable code.
Produce high-quality code by following good practices like automated testing.
Familiarity with building secure, compliant software and defending against common vulnerabilities.
Foundational understanding of data engineering and various datastores for persistent data handling.
Proficiency in frontend development using modern frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js, focusing on creating accessible, user-centered interfaces complying with WCAG standards.
Experience working within a professional services environment and effectively communicating with clients.
Passion for creating better public outcomes through government services.
Ability to travel occasionally for work.
