The role involves building predictive models and applying scientific computing, statistical, and physics-based methods to identify ore-forming processes and predict ore-grade mineralization in 2D and 3D.
The Staff Data Scientist will contribute to creating a worldwide dataset for exploration, focusing on identifying and quantifying uncertainty in data and predictions.
Responsibilities include developing proprietary software exploration tools, curating and integrating geophysical, geochemical, geologic, and geographic data, and making statistically valid predictions about compositional anomalies in the Earth's crust.
The position requires creating visualizations for model performance evaluation, applying data processing techniques, and collaborating with external partners and stakeholders.
The candidate will work closely with geoscientists to create geologic predictions, identify exploration targets, and design field programs to collect data.
Requirements:
Candidates must have extensive experience with Python’s data science packages and general software engineering practices.
Familiarity with collaborative software development (git) and software engineering best practices, including unit test/integration test suites and CICD pipelines, is required.
Experience with cloud computing resources and building predictive models is essential.
Candidates should have broad skills in applied statistics and Bayesian inference, as well as substantial understanding of machine learning algorithms.
An advanced degree in physical sciences, engineering, computer science, or mathematics is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of post-degree work experience as a data scientist or data engineer.
Experience leading technical teams to apply novel scientific approaches to business problems is necessary.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to design and implement technical solutions, synthesize complex information, and possess exceptional curiosity and eagerness to learn.
It is helpful, but not required, to have experience with geospatial data, geostatistics, image processing, or distributed computing applications.
Benefits:
This is a full-time, exempt position with a remote-first workplace, open to candidates residing anywhere in the United States or Canada.
The US base salary range for this position is $190,000-$235,000.
