Description:

  • Valo Health is a technology company focused on accelerating drug discovery and development using human-centric data and AI-powered technology.
  • The Staff Data Scientist will be a core member of the Chemical Data Sciences team, responsible for training and applying predictive models to drive drug discovery programs.
  • The role involves collaboration with the in-vitro pharmacology group to ensure optimal model training and problem-solving through mutual understanding of data and desired outcomes.
  • The candidate will partner with engineering teams to advance capabilities, create and improve data pipelines, and enhance data ingestion and evaluation processes.
  • Responsibilities include training, assessing, deploying, and interpreting statistical machine learning models, and communicating complex statistical and biological concepts to various stakeholders.
  • The position requires a candidate who is experienced in the drug discovery industry, detail-oriented, and enjoys collaboration across diverse scientific backgrounds.

Requirements:

  • A PhD or a Master's degree with experience in Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related quantitative fields is required.
  • At least 5 years of relevant industry experience is mandatory.
  • Proven experience in critically evaluating scientific literature and basic skills in mining biological assay data are preferred.
  • A good understanding of methods in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology is essential.
  • Proficiency in programming with Python and/or R, fluency in shell scripting, and comfort with command line operations are required.
  • Experience with cheminformatics tools and platforms such as RDKit, OpenBabel, Pipeline Pilot, KNIME, MOE, and Schrödinger is necessary.
  • Understanding of data modeling and database technologies, including experience with SQL, is required.
  • Familiarity with modern machine learning methods and strong project management skills are essential.
  • The candidate must be a confident communicator, comfortable in discussions with both platform engineering and medicinal chemistry teams.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously is crucial.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
