Description:

  • Latitude AI is an automated driving technology company developing a hands-free, eyes-off driver assist system for next-generation Ford vehicles at scale.
  • The Functional Safety team ensures the product meets safety standards and creates novel safety approaches for L3 autonomy.
  • The team is responsible for the entire safety lifecycle during the core development and application of the system into a serial-production vehicle.
  • The role involves leading functional safety activities across the software organization to design safety into the system and onboard autonomy and platform software.
  • Responsibilities include translating ISO-26262 part 6 requirements into actions for software development, building functional safety software for safety-critical applications, and leading software safety architecture development.
  • The engineer will create, coordinate, and track requirements for embedded high-performance software development activities.
  • The position requires interfacing with various teams to drive traceability between system-level requirements and software safety specifications.
  • The engineer will create automated tests to verify software functionality and lead safety activities such as qualification of pre-existing software components.
  • The role also involves contributing to the development of the complete system safety case and working with project management on functional safety processes.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years, or a PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience is required.
  • A strong record in system safety related to software design and development is necessary.
  • Strong engineering communication skills are essential, particularly in conveying complex engineering issues to a diverse team.
  • Experience with complex software architecture and development in C/C++ is required.
  • Familiarity with safety-related operating systems (QNX, Autosar) and runtime software environments, as well as Linux, is necessary.
  • Proven experience in developing embedded or robotics software on resource-constrained platforms is required.
  • The ability to design software components and systems and communicate designs effectively is essential.
  • Practical experience with systems engineering methods applied to complex software systems is required.
  • Knowledge of automotive functional safety standards (ISO-26262 or similar) is necessary.
  • Experience in safety-critical software development processes and strong systems engineering fundamentals are required.
  • Previous experience delivering products following the safety lifecycle is essential.
