Description:
The Staff ML Engineer position at KoBold involves applying software engineering and machine learning to large remote-sensing datasets to build scalable ML systems for mineral exploration projects.
Responsibilities include architecting and maintaining scientific computing libraries, building ML tooling to accelerate machine learning progress, creating models for predicting compositional anomalies in the Earth's crust, and collaborating with data scientists and geologists to invent a modern scientific computing stack for mineral exploration.
The ideal candidate will contribute to shaping the future of mineral exploration by working on vital energy transition metals like lithium, copper, nickel, and cobalt.
The role requires a collaborative approach, adherence to engineering best practices, and a willingness to learn and adapt to the unique challenges of applying machine learning to mineral exploration.
Requirements:
At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer, data scientist, or ML engineer, with a preference for candidates with closer to 10 years of experience.
Demonstrated track record of building production ML solutions or tooling that have provided business value.
Proficiency in Python, including array-based packages like xarray and numpy, and parallel computing patterns using frameworks like Dask.
Ability to engage with data scientists to enhance productivity for experimental and production workflows.
Open-mindedness and curiosity to tackle challenges specific to applying machine learning to mineral exploration, such as limited groundtruth data and complex quality metric design.
Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including data scientists, geoscientists, and software engineers.
Benefits:
Competitive US base salary range of $190,000-$250,000 for this full-time exempt position.
