Remote Staff Software Engineer, Fullstack (Onchain Payments)

Description:

• Coinbase Developer Platform (CDP) is focused on building developer tools to facilitate onchain development.
• The team aims to create an easy-to-use and trusted developer experience to bring a million developers onchain.
• The role is for the lead engineer of the Onchain Payments effort, which involves both new product development and enhancements to the existing Coinbase Commerce product.
• Responsibilities include bringing a 0-to-1 product to life to replace the global payment stack with crypto rails.
• The engineer will lead the fullstack design and development of a secure, high-performance product using TypeScript, Go, and Solidity.
• Rapid prototyping of user flows to gain market feedback and productionizing code as necessary is expected.
• Integration with existing Coinbase surfaces, including Smart Wallet, Commerce, and Platform APIs, is required.
• The role involves designing, implementing, and driving adoption of a novel open-source web3 payment protocol using Solidity.
• Collaboration with product managers, designers, and cross-functional partners to find product market fit is essential.
• The engineer will maintain and improve upon an existing legacy codebase of Coinbase Commerce.
• Driving the adoption of engineering best practices and ensuring operational excellence is a key responsibility.
• Performance optimization of frontend and backend systems for fast transaction processing and smooth UI interactions is necessary.
• Troubleshooting and debugging complex fullstack issues to ensure platform stability, reliability, and security is required.
• Providing technical guidance and support to the engineering team and contributing to the overall technical direction of Coinbase is expected.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 8+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on fullstack development; 2+ years in a leadership position at a crypto start-up is a plus.
• Mastery of Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Solidity is required; familiarity with Ruby is a plus.
• A proven track record of rapidly shipping high-quality fullstack systems is necessary.
• Candidates should have a deep understanding of Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains, along with experience in developing smart contracts.
• A demonstrated commitment to excellent developer experiences and open source code, particularly in relation to crypto and payments, is essential.
• Strong expertise in frontend development using modern frameworks like React, Next.js, and Angular is required.
• A solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven architectures is necessary, including experience with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB), caching systems (Redis, Memcached), and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience with developer operations, including cloud providers such as AWS and containerization technologies like Kubernetes, is required.
• A deep understanding of web security best practices and experience implementing secure coding practices for financial systems is essential.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to find elegant solutions to complex challenges in the crypto payment processing domain are necessary.
• Outstanding communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor teams, are required.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience is necessary.

• The target annual salary for this position ranges from $211,650 to $249,000 USD, depending on work location.
