Description:

Wattpad is a global multiplatform entertainment company focused on connecting the world through stories.
The Backend Engineer will join the Backend Services team to create and work on backend platforms that power Wattpad.
Responsibilities include designing, building, and maintaining functionality on a large-scale distributed system serving millions of users daily.
The role involves building new features, tools, and services in PHP and Go, improving reliability and performance of core components, and writing tests for all work.
The engineer will define best practices, provide mentorship to other engineers, and research new technology to address future scaling issues.
The backend system handles 45k requests every second and utilizes microservices written in Go, with a monolith in PHP.
The position requires creating centralized systems that are reliable, resilient, secure, and cost-efficient.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 3+ years of experience in a prior SaaS engineering role.
Experience with cloud platforms as a service (AWS, GCP, etc.) for at least 3 years is required.
Proficiency in Go or PHP is necessary.
Knowledge of Docker is essential.
Excellent communication skills are a must.
A passion for learning and applying knowledge in innovative ways is expected.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently is important.
Candidates should write clean, readable code that clearly communicates its intent and methods.
A strong problem-solving ability is essential, with a preference for well-documented solutions.
