Remote [Wattpad] Data Engineer

Description:

• Wattpad is a global multiplatform entertainment company focused on connecting the world through stories.
• The Data Engineer will join the Data Engineering team to empower engineers, analysts, and data scientists with tools for data-driven decision making.
• Responsibilities include coordinating with various teams to design and improve data architecture, building and maintaining ETL pipelines, and designing data infrastructure systems such as AWS DMS, HBase, EMR, Redshift, S3, Kafka, and Airflow.
• The role involves writing new tools and services in Python, researching new technologies, and advocating for tool adoption within the team.
• Working hours for this position will be in EST.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 5+ years of data engineering experience.
• Proficiency in writing high-quality code in Python and PySpark is required.
• A strong understanding of database fundamentals is necessary.
• Candidates should have a deep understanding of two or more technologies such as Spark, Airflow, AWS EMR, AWS Glue, Sagemaker, and Redshift.
• Experience with batch processing and streaming systems is essential.
• Exposure to or strong interest in Kafka or other queuing technologies is preferred.
• Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills are important.
• Candidates should possess quantitative skills, analytical thinking, and strong attention to detail.
• A desire to contribute to the broader development community is expected.
