Description:

Wattpad is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to work on the Payment and Ads Platforms team, responsible for building and maintaining scalable, secure, and observable payment services.
The role involves designing, building, and maintaining functionality on a large-scale distributed system serving millions of users daily.
Responsibilities include building new product features in Go and PHP, improving reliability and performance of core components, configuring and maintaining infrastructure, writing unit and service tests, and researching and implementing new technology for scaling issues.
The position offers the opportunity to work on a distributed system handling 45k requests per second, with microservices in Go and a monolith in PHP backed by various technologies like S3, DynamoDB, MySQL, Redis, Memcache, and Cloudflare.

Requirements:

5+ years of experience in software development.
Proficiency in Go and PHP.
Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider like Azure or GCP.
Familiarity with 3rd party integrations.
Enjoyment in building and maintaining complex backend systems at high scale.
Ability to write clean, readable code and switch between static and dynamic languages.
