Remote Part-Time Federal Solutions Architect (1099 Contractor)

Description:

• Tomorrow.io is expanding its federal footprint across civilian and defense missions, including NOAA AWIPS and FAA next-generation air traffic control.
• The company is seeking a senior Federal Solutions Architect to join as a part-time independent contractor.
• This role is ideal for an experienced federal technologist who wants to stay hands-on as an individual contributor and apply deep federal architecture and compliance expertise.
• The position allows for high-impact contributions without people management initially and offers a clear opportunity to transition into a full-time role next year.
• This is a builder role, not a maintenance role.
• Responsibilities include owning federal solution architecture, leading compliance and security architecture, partnering with integrators and government stakeholders, bridging product engineering and federal reality, and supporting capture and growth efforts as needed.

Requirements:

• Proven experience architecting and delivering systems in federal civilian and/or DoD environments is required.
• A strong background in cloud infrastructure, data platforms, APIs, and operational systems is necessary.
• Hands-on experience with FedRAMP, RMF, FISMA, ITAR, CUI, and DoD IL5/IL6 is essential.
• The ability to design architectures that balance performance, security, and regulatory rigor is required.
• Candidates must be comfortable operating as a trusted technical expert with government customers and integrators.
• The ability to work independently, define structure, and deliver with minimal oversight is necessary.
• Experience standing up new environments, programs, or federal capabilities is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Candidates must be U.S. citizens, based in the U.S. (Washington, DC highly preferred), and possess an active or eligible TS/SCI clearance.
• Prior experience supporting DoD and/or federal civilian systems is required.
