Remote Principal Machine Learning Engineer

Description:

• Wiser Solutions is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to shape and execute their AI and data science strategy.
• This position can be based anywhere in Canada, with a preference for candidates in the eastern or central time zone.
• The role involves defining architectural direction, representing AI capabilities to customers and partners, and delivering production systems that drive measurable business outcomes.
• The candidate will be responsible for both strategic planning and hands-on implementation, presenting to executives and debugging production pipelines.
• The role includes defining and evolving Wiser's AI and data science technical strategy, identifying high-impact opportunities for AI, and establishing technical standards across the organization.
• The engineer will architect and build production AI systems, design evaluation frameworks, and ensure technical quality for AI systems end-to-end.
• The position requires collaboration with product management, mentoring the AI/data science team, and driving AI-native development practices across the engineering organization.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 15+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or ML engineering, with a demonstrated progression into technical leadership.
• Deep expertise in statistical methods, experimental design, and classical ML is required.
• Proven ability to architect and deliver production ML/AI systems at scale on cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals are necessary, including the ability to write production-quality code.
• A track record of organization-wide technical influence, including setting standards and mentoring engineers, is essential.
• Experience in communicating technical strategy to non-technical stakeholders is required.
• Candidates should demonstrate the ability to operate autonomously and identify high-impact problems.
• Active daily use of AI coding assistants and a belief in AI's transformative impact on software development is expected.

Benefits:

• The base annual pay for this position is estimated to be CAD$215,000 to $230,000, with performance-based discretionary bonuses and variable pay plans available.
