Remote Senior Software Engineer (REMOTE)

Description:

• Upbound is redefining how modern infrastructure is built, leading the shift toward agentic infrastructure.
• The company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build and operate Upbound Spaces, the control plane management software at the heart of the Upbound Platform.
• The role involves scaling Upbound to support thousands of control planes and extending enterprise control plane management in both cloud and on-premises environments.
• Responsibilities include building and operating Upbound Spaces in production, troubleshooting issues in multi-tenant SaaS environments, and contributing to open-source projects like Crossplane.
• The engineer will take ownership of building features based on customer demand and deliver new functionality.
• Investigating and debugging complex issues in customer environments, including multi-control plane scenarios and performance bottlenecks, is a key part of the job.
• The role requires creating design documents for new initiatives and conducting post-incident reviews to drive system improvements.
• The engineer will support the full project lifecycle for scalable and reliable services, including discovery, analysis, architecture, design, documentation, and ongoing operational support.
• Writing and maintaining Go code that interfaces with the Kubernetes API, focusing on observability and operational excellence, is essential.
• The engineer will deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Kubernetes services in production, using metrics and logs to resolve issues.
• Building operational tooling for debugging customer environments and authoring documentation and user guides are also part of the responsibilities.
• Participation in on-call rotation to support Upbound Cloud and respond to incidents is required.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have experience operating production cloud services at scale, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and service reliability improvement.
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems are necessary, along with experience using observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Experience building and operating controllers that interact with the Kubernetes API server is required, including troubleshooting and optimizing performance.
• Candidates should be comfortable working directly with customers to resolve complex technical issues.
• A sense of responsibility and ownership for solving problems, especially during incidents affecting customer workloads, is essential.
