The Staff Machine Learning Engineer will lead the development and scaling of the Wildfire Fuel Detection Model, which analyzes vegetation structure, fuel loads, and wildfire risk using satellite and environmental data.
The role involves collaborating with data scientists, ML engineers, and product teams to ensure the accuracy and robustness of wildfire models.
Responsibilities include architecting advanced ML models, designing data pipelines, defining modeling objectives, building experimentation frameworks, scaling models to production, and leading the evolution of ML systems.
The team is diverse, consisting of outdoor enthusiasts and professionals from various backgrounds, united by a commitment to solving complex problems and climate action.
Requirements:
Candidates should have a strong background in machine learning, geospatial data, and environmental science, with a passion for reducing wildfire risk.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and building production-grade ML pipelines is preferred, but candidates with 6+ years of experience may also apply.
Expertise in deep learning, computer vision, or remote sensing is required.
Proficiency in designing end-to-end ML systems, including data ingestion, preprocessing, deployment, and monitoring is necessary.
Hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, XGBoost, or LightGBM, and data tools like Dask, Spark, or GeoPandas is essential.
Familiarity with GCP and Vertex AI or similar cloud-based ML platforms is required.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and scientific domains are necessary.
Candidates should be comfortable leading architectural discussions and mentoring other engineers.
