  • The role of AI/Machine Learning Engineer involves developing Agentic AI systems to automate and optimize health benefits determinations for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
  • The engineer will focus on integrating reasoning capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) with deterministic, rule-driven patterns to ensure accuracy and compliance in decision-making workflows.
  • Key responsibilities include designing autonomous AI agents, developing "Guardrail" layers for LLM outputs, implementing advanced Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, and ensuring auditability and explainability of AI-driven determinations.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 5โ€“8+ years of professional experience in Machine Learning or Data Science, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience with LLM orchestration and Generative AI frameworks.
  • Proficiency with tools such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or Semantic Kernel for building multi-step agent workflows is required.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience with standard frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn is necessary.
  • Candidates should possess strong SQL skills and experience with distributed data processing (Spark/PySpark) to handle large-scale enterprise data.
  • The ability to debug non-deterministic systems and implement rigorous evaluation frameworks is essential.
  • A Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required, with a Masterโ€™s degree preferred. Equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain an OPM Public Trust clearance.
