Remote Principal Software Engineer - Data Platform (Iceberg/Trino)

Description:

• Own the architecture of the lakehouse engine using Apache Iceberg, Trino, and Spark for on-premise deployments.
• Design on-premise replacements for cloud-managed warehouse capabilities.
• Validate proof-of-concept for catalog and query engine at expected data volumes.
• Set platform-wide standards for table layout, partitioning, and maintenance.
• Lead SQL dialect strategy for porting existing workloads to Trino and Spark SQL.
• Mentor senior engineers and review designs to enhance engineering quality.
• Collaborate on storage sizing, resource isolation, and capacity planning.

Requirements:

• B.E., B.Tech., M.Sc. in Computer Science or related field.
• 12+ years of experience in large-scale data platforms or distributed systems.
• Expertise in distributed SQL engines (Trino/Presto or Spark SQL).
• Production experience with Apache Iceberg or similar technologies.
• Knowledge of Iceberg catalog services and S3 compatible object storage.
• Understanding of cloud warehouse internals (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
• Proficient in Java and/or Python.
• Experience in on-premise, regulated, or air-gapped environments is a plus.
