Description:
The Senior Engineer, Cybersecurity is a hands-on contributor responsible for designing, building, and operating security controls and services that protect The Times' systems, data, and users.
This role involves owning complex initiatives end-to-end, driving measurable risk reduction, and collaborating across product engineering and enterprise technology.
The position requires technical depth, operational rigor, and clear communication aligned with business outcomes.
Responsibilities include creating an environment that empowers product engineers, designing and implementing security controls, integrating security into architecture and developer workflows, performing security reviews and risk assessments, investigating security issues, participating in knowledge sharing, supporting team growth, and demonstrating commitment to the company's mission.
The role reports to the Director of Engineering, Cybersecurity.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 5+ years of experience in software engineering and/or security engineering.
A strong understanding of security controls across various domains, including access management, encryption, vulnerability management, AI security, and network security is required.
Knowledge of one or more Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and best practices for securing them is necessary.
Experience with software engineering practices such as CI/CD, GitOps, and IaC, along with related security practices, is essential.
Proficiency in at least one programming language (Go, Python) is required.
Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms is also necessary.
Benefits:
The annual base pay range for this role is between $145,000 - $165,000 USD.
Eligible employees may receive variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
