Description:

  • As a Senior Front-End Developer, you will help shape a high-profile UK public-sector digital service, delivering an accessible and efficient experience for end users.
  • You will work in a project-level, cross-functional Scrum team, focusing on building greenfield front-ends with Next.js (React, TypeScript) and collaborating across disciplines to deliver the best outcomes for customers.
  • Technical ownership is central to the role, which involves shaping front-end architecture, setting and evolving engineering standards, and recording key decisions using lightweight artefacts such as ADRs.
  • You will contribute design input, lead peer reviews, mentor colleagues, and partner closely with product, UX, and back-end engineering teams.
  • Delivery will center on maintainable features, strong performance, and accessibility, supporting WCAG 2.2 AA compliance through a mix of automated checks and manual testing.
  • You will build reusable components aligned with the GOV.UK Design System and ensure that change is delivered in a way that stays safe to ship and easy to evolve.
  • The role involves setting expectations for quality across the front end, influencing how work is tested and released, and reducing production risk through pragmatic controls, early validation, and a consistent, lightweight engineering discipline.
  • Responsibilities include leading and delivering features end-to-end, setting front-end architecture and coding standards, owning the testing strategy, optimizing performance and accessibility, collaborating with various teams, managing feature flags, and maintaining documentation.

Requirements:

  • You must have 6+ years of professional front-end experience.
  • Expert-level knowledge of React, including hooks, context, performance optimization, and modern patterns is required.
  • Solid experience with the Next.js framework and its ecosystem (SSR, SSG, ISR) is essential.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript for scalable, type-safe codebases is necessary.
  • You should have deep knowledge of front-end engineering practices, including state management, code splitting, and bundle optimization.
  • Strong testing and debugging skills with Playwright, Jest, Cypress, or similar tools are required.
  • Proven mentoring and cross-functional collaboration experience in delivering user-centric software is essential.
  • A strong understanding of design systems and component libraries, along with experience partnering with UX/UI, is necessary.
  • You should have a track record of technical leadership guiding delivery across multi-environment projects.
  • Experience shaping solutions during discovery and advising on technical feasibility is required.
  • Familiarity with Git and modern branching strategies, including conflict resolution and peer PR reviews, is necessary.
  • An active UK Security Check (SC) to start, or eligibility for SC with required residency, is mandatory.

Benefits:

  • You will receive private medical cover funded by NEC for employees, with the option to add family members at an additional cost.
  • The position offers 25 days of paid holiday with the option to buy/sell (FTE).
  • You will have access to 4 x basic salary life assurance cover funded by NEC, with the option to increase cover at an additional cost.
  • A Group Pension Plan with fantastic employer contributions up to a maximum of 8.5% is included.
  • A selection of flexible benefits to suit your individual needs will be provided.
  • All colleagues will get free access to LinkedIn Learning, with over 15,000 courses covering a wide range of subjects, allowing you to learn at your own pace.
