Description:

Pinecone is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build core components of a next-generation knowledge retrieval system for AI applications.
The role involves creating knowledge infrastructure that connects synthesized knowledge from structured and unstructured data to LLM-powered applications.
Responsibilities include designing scalable platform components, optimizing indexing pipelines, building backend services for retrieval, improving retrieval quality, designing APIs, optimizing performance, and driving technical direction for reliability and security.
The ideal candidate should have a passion for transforming data into knowledge and possess expertise in backend system architecture, distributed systems, and applied AI infrastructure.

Requirements:

Candidates should have a proven track record of at least 6 years in shipping production-grade backends for large-scale systems, focusing on high throughput, low latency, and maintainability.
Experience in building high-throughput indexing pipelines for both structured and unstructured data is required.
A strong understanding of semantic search, vector databases, and hybrid retrieval strategies is essential.
Familiarity with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) patterns and their impact on LLM performance is necessary.
Proficiency in at least one major programming language such as Go, Rust, C++, Java, or Python is required.
Experience with modern infrastructure tools like Kubernetes, cloud-native architectures, and infrastructure-as-code tools is preferred.
Candidates should demonstrate product thinking and the ability to design user-friendly APIs.
Comfort in a high-growth environment and a preference for ownership of problems over executing tasks is important.
Bonus points for experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms, retrieval evaluation frameworks, and query planning.
