Description:

Mesh is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to help architect and build the foundation of the world’s first global crypto payments network.
The role involves operating across the full stack, from backend systems to user-facing applications, driving key technical decisions, and shaping the future of digital finance.
The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, and design to lead the development of secure, seamless, and scalable financial experiences.
As a senior technical leader, the engineer will define system architecture, mentor engineers, and influence product strategy.
Candidates based in San Francisco are preferred for close collaboration with the core team, but remote candidates located in the U.S. are also welcome.
Responsibilities include owning and driving the roadmap for multiple areas, driving technical architecture decisions, providing technical leadership, collaborating with teams to set strategy, developing and maintaining backend services and APIs, and working with Azure cloud services for deployment and scalability.
The engineer will conduct testing, debugging, and resolution of software defects, create high-quality code, optimize performance and scalability, and champion best practices in software engineering.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in fintech or payments infrastructure.
Strong backend skills in one or more of the following languages: C#, C++, Go, Java, or Python are required.
Proficiency in cloud-native development (Azure), Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD tooling is necessary.
A security-first mindset with knowledge of common security concepts such as AuthN, AuthZ, SAML, API security, and encryption is essential.
Understanding of crypto concepts such as blockchains, RPCs, and self-custody wallets is required.
A solid understanding of RESTful API design principles and microservices architecture is necessary.
Prior experience leading engineering in a high-growth startup environment is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and make critical decisions under pressure, are essential.
