Description:

  • Staff Engineers at SmartLogic provide technical leadership for multiple ongoing projects and help to develop solutions for prospects and clients.
  • Work at SmartLogic is organized by project, with each project staffed by a Project Manager, a Staff Engineer, Designers, and Developers.
  • The Staff Engineer is responsible for the planning and implementation of technical delivery and team efficiency for assigned projects.
  • They collaborate with the Project Manager to maintain the Product Requirements Document, Backlog, and technical direction of projects.
  • The Staff Engineer serves as an expert and mentor for developers on the team, planning sprints that align with project scope.
  • They commit directly to the codebase, pair program, and lead the code review process.
  • Although they do not serve as direct supervisors, they act as technical experts and mentors for coworkers.
  • Staff Engineers assist in the pre-sales process by providing solutioning, scope refinement, and estimates.
  • The position is fully remote within the United States and its Territories, with a base compensation range of $115k - 175k per year.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 7+ years of experience with modern software development practices and technologies creating custom software for various clients.
  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails and Elixir and Phoenix, and at least 2+ years with Flutter and/or React Native is required.
  • Candidates should have 5+ years of experience with DevOps practices including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, deployment, and tooling (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, cloud monitoring).
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in a consultancy, rather than just product-based companies, is necessary.
  • Experience in participating in technical discovery, solution design, and estimation for client-facing and sales prospect projects is required.
  • Practical experience using AI tools to support software development (e.g., code generation, refactoring, testing, debugging, prototyping, and documentation) is essential.
  • Candidates must be organized, thoughtful, and intentional about process, demonstrating the ability to set and manage expectations among teammates, direct reports, and managers.
