Remote Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Cost Engineering)

Description:

• Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Cost Engineering) to enhance cost visibility and optimization across its cloud and AI infrastructure.
• The role involves designing tooling, automation, and processes for cost governance, influencing cost strategy, and addressing cost anomalies with a structured approach.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in backend systems development using Python or Kotlin.
• Proven track record in building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with FinOps or cost-visibility platforms, including building dashboards and anomaly detection.
• Strong skills in automation and tooling development (Python, Terraform) for scalable cost-review processes.
• Hands-on experience with cloud billing data and complex SQL for cost modeling.
• Ability to deliver major features and components with clear technical plans and high-quality code.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.
