Remote Backend Software Engineer

• The Backend Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs that power core products.
• This role requires strong technical skills, the ability to define problems clearly, and effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• The engineer will collaborate closely with product, frontend, DevOps, and QA teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure systems.
• Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs using TypeScript, Node.js, and Express, implementing robust database solutions using MySQL and Sequelize ORM, and optimizing backend services for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• The engineer will troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensure high code quality through automated testing and peer reviews, contribute to technical documentation, and participate in architectural discussions.

Requirements:

• Strong experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and Express is required.
• A solid understanding of REST API design principles and best practices is necessary.
• Proficiency with MySQL and ORM frameworks, preferably Sequelize, is essential.
• Experience with asynchronous programming, error handling, and performance optimization in Node.js is required.
• Familiarity with containerized deployments such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Nomad is needed.
• Experience with Git-based workflows, including GitHub or GitLab, is necessary.
• Familiarity with PHP/Laravel is a nice to have for interaction with the legacy platform.
• Understanding of security best practices for backend services is a plus.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks like Jest, Mocha, or Cypress is beneficial.
• Exposure to distributed or microservices-based architectures is a nice to have.
