As a Senior Security Engineer on the Detection & Response team, you will be responsible for detecting, investigating, and responding to security threats across 1Password.
You will design, build, and continuously improve threat detections across various environments, lead security incident response activities, and apply threat intelligence to enhance detection capabilities.
The role involves collaboration with Security, Infrastructure, and IT teams to improve security visibility and response readiness, as well as using automation and scripting to scale detection workflows.
You will own end-to-end security projects and participate in a shared on-call rotation for high-severity incidents.
The position requires a calm and effective approach to incident response, strong judgment, and a collaborative mindset.
Requirements:
You must have 5+ years of experience in security technical engineering roles, with at least 3 years focused on security operations, detection engineering, or incident response.
Hands-on experience with detection engineering and automation tools, including SIEMs, SOAR platforms, and Detection-as-Code workflows is required.
A strong understanding of modern attacker techniques and their application in cloud-native, SaaS, and identity-centric environments is essential.
Experience with endpoint, runtime, and forensic tools across multiple operating systems is necessary.
Knowledge of cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP) and security best practices for cloud-native systems is required.
Proficiency in scripting and infrastructure tools (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines) to support automation is needed.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to explain complex security issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The annual base salary for this role ranges from $156,000 to $210,000 USD for USA-based roles, or $143,000 to $193,000 CAD for Canada-based roles, along with immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program.
