Description:
Arbor is building an intelligent electricity marketplace to create an abundant electric future.
The company addresses the surge in electricity demand driven by AI data centers while helping homes and businesses escape outdated monopoly interfaces.
Arbor's AI-powered platform aggregates users to unlock wholesale pricing, automatically switches between the best rates, and optimizes usage in real-time.
The company has raised over $20 million from leading investors and saved over $7.5 million for tens of thousands of homes and businesses.
The role is for a backend-focused engineer to join a lean, high-leverage engineering team responsible for building the infrastructure of the energy marketplace.
Responsibilities include designing and building scalable backend services, developing and maintaining cloud infrastructure on GCP using Terraform, and building integrations with utility data sources and supplier APIs.
The engineer will create robust data pipelines for real-time rate monitoring and market intelligence, partner with product teams, and collaborate closely with a small team to ship code rapidly.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 5+ years of backend engineering experience with production systems at scale.
Strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript is required, with Node.js experience for backend services; familiarity with Nest.js is a plus.
Hands-on experience managing cloud environments, including serverless and event-driven systems built on native cloud tooling, preferably GCP.
Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure-as-code is necessary, with experience managing real cloud environments.
Comfort with databases (SQL, ideally Postgres), API design, and asynchronous processing patterns is required.
Candidates should have AI fluency, actively using AI coding tools and being eager to push the boundaries of AI-augmented development.
A bias toward shipping and the ability to thrive in ambiguous environments while maintaining quality is essential.
An interest in energy, climate tech, or marketplace products is a strong plus.
Benefits:
The position offers a competitive salary, meaningful equity, and benefits.
The work setup is remote-friendly, with occasional in-person collaboration as needed.
