Description:

The role is for a Web Developer who will work remotely as an unpaid volunteer.
The position reports to the IT Lead and coordinates with the Head of Communications.
The primary responsibility is to maintain, improve, and expand the functionality of BCI’s WordPress website.
This technical role focuses on performance, security, and feature development to support BCI’s communications goals and global visibility.
The Web Developer will collaborate closely with the Web Designer, Communications team, and IT support to implement updates, develop new capabilities, and troubleshoot issues.
Key responsibilities include implementing web updates and design features, building new WordPress modules, ensuring the website is responsive and optimized for performance, managing plugins, performing regular maintenance, troubleshooting backend bugs, collaborating with teams to test and deploy new features, monitoring performance benchmarks, and ensuring compliance with accessibility and data privacy standards.

Requirements:

Candidates must have demonstrated experience in WordPress development and custom theme editing.
Familiarity with HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript is required.
An understanding of hosting environments, DNS, and content delivery is necessary.
Knowledge of responsive design, SEO, and basic web analytics is expected.
The ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders is essential.
Experience working independently, managing deadlines, and collaborating across time zones is required.

Volunteers will gain ownership of BCI’s digital infrastructure.
